John W. Carter was a judge of the New York Supreme Court 12th Judicial District.

Education

Carter received his undergraduate degree from City College of the City University of New York in 1979 and earned his J.D. from the Columbia Law School in 1982.[1]

Career

Carter began his career in 1982 as an associate of the law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges. In 1987, he became an Assistant District Attorney and served in New York County until his judicial appointment in 2000. He was then appointed to the New York City Criminal Court in Kings County. In 2002, he was reappointed to the Criminal Court and appointed Acting Supreme Court Justice.[1]
