John Watson (Missouri)
John Watson was the interim Missouri State Auditor from February 2015–April 2015. He was first appointed to the position by Gov. Jay Nixon (D) February 27, 2015, following the death of recently re-elected Missouri State Auditor Thomas Schweich (R). Watson was relieved of his interim post April 27, 2015, when Nicole Galloway was sworn in as Schweich's permanent successor. Nixon selected Galloway to serve the remainder of Schweich's unexpired term, ending January 2019.[1]
Watson passed away on August 28, 2020.[2]

Career
Watson served as a senior advisor to Gov. Nixon prior to his appointment as interim auditor. He worked as chief of staff to Nixon from his time as attorney general in 1997 until December 2014. Watson has also worked in finance departments at Emerson Electric and the state Department of Economic Development.[1]
