I’m passionate about housing. King County should be a community where everyone has someplace they can call home.
Former Gov. Dan Evans, the later Representative Al Swift and civic leader Jim Ellis. They each were willing to tackle big, complex and meaningful issues. Evans pushed three times for comprehensive tax reform (something we still need today). Swift got passed one of the most progressive, renewable focused federal energy policy bills — in 1980 no less. And Ellis had the vision and determination to save Lake Washington from reckless pollution and ruin.
“It was once said that the moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; and those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped.” Hubert H. Humphrey
An elected official should be honest, humble, and focused on the greater good.
A good officeholder should be a listener, a bridge builder, and a visionary who can lead her or his community to a better place.
The core responsibility to to make sure property values are set fairly, equitably, and as accurate as possible.
That King County was a place where property values were set fairly and everyone had some place to call home.

The Department of Assessments has property data on every piece of land in the county. This can be incredibly useful for both government and the private sectors.
An understanding on economics, how property values are set, and modern management skills to efficiently and effectively run the agency.
It is the financial underpinning of local government. Without property taxes, there would be virtually no local government.
Yes. Having previous government experience means you usually better understand what’s in the realm of the possible vs. the romantic ideal.

Stalking and protection order arrest (2025)

On July 2, 2025, Wilson was arrested for allegedly stalking and violating a domestic violence protection order. Wilson’s ex-fiancée obtained a restraining order against him and said he violated it by communicating with her by email and phone, posting about her on social media, and repeatedly driving past her house.[1]

Wilson’s attorney said in court that Wilson’s actions had not escalated, saying, "Ms. Keller has stated John Wilson never assaulted her. There has never been any threats of physical assault. There are allegations that he violated an order of protection. That’s it."[2]

The King County Council passed a vote of no confidence against Wilson on June 10, 2025, and called for his resignation after the protection order was initially filed.[3] Wilson declined to resign, saying, "We all have a right to vote for who we want, and the voters will speak in August."[1]
