What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
From a financial perspective, residents need transparency from their county government. As an auditor, I will provide an independent check on county government spending. Citizens are concerned that funds meant for roads and bridges are not spent where they should. I can independently determine and communicate where these have been spent. The State of Oklahoma has a complicated income stream. Counties and schools have many different sources of income. As someone who has taught accounting for over 20 years, I can communicate to the public clearly about state income and spending.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
My passion has always been transparency. I believe that the government and its elected officials should be held to a high standard. Because of this, I have personally pledged openness and transparency to the citizens of Oklahoma, by signing the Open Government Pledge provided by FOI Oklahoma Inc. In addition, I released my personal financial information to the watchdog group, Oklahoma Watch, and have posted my tax return on my campaign web page..
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I believe that I am qualified for this position because I am first and foremost independent, which is absolutely necessary for an independent auditor. Whether the County Treasurer is a Democrat or a Republican, and whether the Governor is a Democrat or a Republican, citizens can be assured that I will be able to audit State and county records free of any political bias.
