I am running to be the first Asian American elected to the Civil Court in your neighborhood. I am the only Judge among the candidates in the contested primary, and I have a proven track record of treating all who appear before me with justice and equality in Housing Court. I'm also the only father, husband, and immigrant in this race, so I know the struggles of working families. I was found "Most Highly Qualified" by two 2020 Democratic Party Independent Screening Panels and given the top rating by the LGBQT Bar Association of New York. I am also a proud supporter and member of Parents and Families for Lesbian and Gays (PFLAG). My background includes being the Principal Law Clerk to the Supervising Judge of Manhattan Civil Court. I am grateful to receive the endorsement of so many progressive leaders and Democratic Clubs: Assemblymembers Yuh-Line Niou and Harvey Epstein, Councilmembers Margaret Chin, Mark Levine, and Ydanis Rodriguez. I have been endorsed by Village Independent Democrats, Downtown Independent Democrats, Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, New Downtown Democrats, and United Democratic Organization. As the most qualified candidate and only sitting judge, please vote for Judge John Wang!
  • I am the only Judge among the candidates in this race and I am deeply committed to justice and equality
  • I am the only father, husband, and immigrant so I understand the struggles of everyday New Yorkers and their families
  • I have been endorsed by major progressive leaders and Democratic clubs and I was given the top rating by three independent screening panels in 2020
As the only Judge in this race, I have an unwavering commitment to justice and equality. As a Housing Judge, I try to show everyone who appears before me that the court can be fair and kind. Many of the individuals who appear in my court are self-represented, and despite the high volume, I strive to listen with empathy and compassion to each litigant because I know that the opportunity to feel truly heard is an integral part of ensuring that justice is done.

My wife and I try to instill these values in their two kids, Elias (age 8) and Caitlin (age 5), as they grow and learn to be engaged citizens committed to diversity, inclusion, and equality. In terms of diversity, I am also running to be the first Asian American elected to Civil Court in this district.
