Johnny J. Butler (b. 1946) was a judge on the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court. He assumed this office on July 3, 2008, after being nominated to the position by Gov. Ed Rendell (D) and confirmed in a two-thirds-vote of the Pennsylvania Senate. His term expired in December of 2011.[1]

Professional career

Prior to his appointment to the Commonwealth Court, Butler was of counsel at the Philadephia law firm Booth & Tucker. He also served the state as secretary of labor and industry under former Gov. Tom Ridge and as regional director for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and as assistant counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund early in his career.[1]

Education

Butler graduated in 1971 from the Howard University School of Law and received an L.L.M. from Columbia in 1972.[2]
