Joint Committee on Federal Relations, Maryland Senate (decommissioned)
The Joint Committee on Federal Relations is a former standing committee of the Maryland State Senate and the Maryland House of Delegates.
Function
The Joint Committee on Federal Relations is, by law, a sixteen member joint committee that is co-chaired by the Senate President and the Speaker of the House. Its membership includes eight members of the Senate and eight members of the House of Representatives.
The Joint Committee on Federal Relations monitors and evaluates the relations between State and federal government. It serves to inform State legislative and executive officials of federal relations and impacts of proposals for change. The Committee also serves as a forum for considering some State/local issues.[1]
History
The Federal Relations Joint Committee began in 1937 under the name "Maryland Commission on Intergovernmental Cooperation." The committee's current name was given in 1983.[2]
