Aitken posted the following statement on his campaign website:

I have been involved as a volunteer, in the Vail USD for 10 years. In that time, I have had the privilege of help support the district in many ways. Now, I want to use my experience, and the relationships I've developed with so many across the district, and help the district at the highest level. I am running because I want to part of a team that helps the district through this difficult time.

I want the future of the district to flourish, for my kids and yours. I want the Vail USD to consistently be regonized as one of the top 3 school districts in the State and among the best this country has to offer.

My goal as an elected school board member will be to directly hear the voice of the residents of this great district.[2]
