Campaign themes

2015

Easter's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]

Accessibility

  • Excerpt: "If you elect me as your City-County Councillor, I will never take that trust you place in me lightly or for granted. I will work tirelessly, study options, and advocate for our district with other councillors and the mayor. Above all, I will always remember that I represent YOU with every vote and every action."

Consolidation

  • Excerpt: "Local residents should have a say in their own future and the form of their own fire and safety protection. State government should not force consolidation on local communities against their will. I believe the issue of consolidation should be voted upon in a referendum at the township level. If that is not possible, it should be decided by the City-County Council as the elected representatives of the people of this city."

Crime

  • Excerpt: "Longer sentences for those convicted of violent crimes needs to be explored. But we cannot repeat the mistake of blindly increasing sentences without consideration of the consequences. We have already made that mistake with harsh mandatory sentencing for political expedience that in the long run unnecessarily crowded our jails and prisons and overburdened our judicial system, often for minor offense, all of which has imposed ever-increasing costs on our taxpayers."

Education

  • Excerpt: "I do not support a moratorium on charter schools, but I believe a far more discerning eye must be directed to each proposed school, its qualifications and planned operation before it is approved to educate and mentor our children."

I-69

  • Excerpt: "I-69 in our district will deal a big blow to the unity of our community and knock out much of the economic development along the SR 37 corridor that the Indiana Department of Transportation continues to promote as the planned route."
