With this in mind, I am a strong supporter of charter schools for their innovation and smaller classroom size."

- Excerpt: "New York City, in my opinion, is the greatest city in the world that demands respect and care from all of its citizens. With future generations in mind, we must consider preservation and sustainability programs top priority. I will work to improve air quality, as well as ensuring the water in our city is at or above standard for all to enjoy. Building a strong partnership with the EPA will be one of my main areas of focus in order to meet this goal. After all, we should be a model for the entire globe and strive for perfection."

- Excerpt: "As a driver in NYC, I find the condition of our streets unacceptable. As basic as it seems, investing in the infrastructure of our roads has clearly been an area of neglect in the not so distant past. The expediency with which our Department of Transportation repairs our roads is deplorable. The impact is felt by each of us who drive in the city through costly repairs to our cars as well as exacerbating the already difficult commutes. For these repairs, I plan to lobby for reimbursements until our roads are back up to standard."

- Excerpt: "Through partnerships with city developers, I will ensure preservation of affordable housing is considered during the planning phases of all market-rate housing plans. Keeping the interest of each hard working tax-payer in mind, I pledge to provide fair and even distribution of affordable housing to those in need, and believe in providing incentive plans to aid in boosting confidence in those that are ready to take the next steps to an assistance-free future."
- Excerpt: "Affordable housing is for those with genuine need, not for those who make it a culture to stay on assistance programs while increasing their family size and not contributing to society. I believe everyone has a duty to do their part as members of society. I stand firmly against anyone taking advantage of our welfare programs and have zero tolerance for those taking a free ride on the taxpayer’s dime."

- Excerpt: "When someone parks in a section which they shouldn’t I agree that a fine should be paid. With that being said I don’t think it’s fair for that fine to be an outrageous amount. I think we need to revise the penalty amounts for our city because paying a parking ticket shouldn’t be the same amount as paying one’s rent."

Elections for the New York State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on September 9, 2014. The general election took place November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was July 10, 2014. Incumbent Bill Perkins was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Jon Girodes was unopposed in the Republican primary. Ruben D. Vargas was removed from the ballot before the Democratic primary. Perkins also ran on the Working Families Party ticket. Perkins defeated Girodes in the general election.[6][7][8]
