Jon M. Barnwell is a judge for the 7th Chancery District of Mississippi. He was elected to the court in 1989.[1][2] He was re-elected on November 4, 2014, for a term that begins in 2015 and will expire in 2018.[3][4]

Education

Barnwell earned a B.S. from Mississippi State University in 1966, going on to receive his J.D. from the University of Mississippi in 1971.[1]

Career

Prior to joining the bench in 1989, Barnwell worked in private practice with the law firm of Luckett & Barnwell. He also gained experience as a judge pro tempore for the City of Clarksdale and as a veterans' service officer for Leflore County. Barnwell served two years of active duty in the U.S. Army from 1966 until 1968, where he attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant.[1]
