  • We must take big money out of politics.
  • We must reform Congress and make it do its job.
  • We must create competitive legislative districts and adopt term limits for Congress.
The greatest issue of our generation is the simple fact that Congress does not work. It has yielded most of its power to the Executive over a long period of time and no longer performs the role given it in our Constitution. It is controlled not by the people or their representatives, but by the vulgar and obscene amount of money, and its corrupting influence, poured into it, the self-interest of career politicians and leadership that controls the country's agenda, even if that agenda is opposed by an overwhelming majority of the people. If we do not fix this problem, and the dysfunctional gridlock it has created, we will never be able to address or resolve the many important issues facing our country. We also may soon lose our Constitution and our cherished heritage of representative government. This is an election that will decide for generations what sort of country we are going to be.
Congressman David Crockett and Senator John McCain. I admire them because they were political mavericks who stood for what they thought was right, regardless of Party or President.
Their values and integrity. Without these an elected official can accomplish nothing.
The resignation of Richard Nixon and the end of the Vietnam War. I must have been around nine or ten.
Working my way through college, and struggling with depression as an adult.
Our greatest challenge will be fixing the way Congress does it's business to make it more responsive, work better and harder on the people's real business and perform its constitutional role as a check on the power of the executive. As part of this, Congress has a vital role in changing the tone and tenor of our politics so that it works for the country and its people.
I support term limits as a concept. The difficulty will be in the details of what that looks like and the possibility of getting an amendment through Congress and on to the state's for ratification.
