Jon Stryker is the founder and president of the Arcus Foundation, which aims to support LGBT rights and great ape conservation efforts. He has donated to Democratic candidates and is involved with several charitable and educational organizations.
Career
Stryker earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Kalamazoo College in 1982 and went on to earn a master's degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. His grandfather, Homer Stryker, founded Stryker Corporation, a global medical technology company. Stryker is a registered architect in Michigan.[1][2][3][4]
In January 2016, Forbes magazine ranked Stryker number 327 on its list of the 400 richest people in the United States.[3]
Philanthropy
Stryker founded the Arcus Foundation, which aims to "work with experts and [advocate] for change to ensure that LGBT people and our fellow apes thrive in a world where social and environmental justice are a reality." The foundation was established in 2000 and works to support LGBT rights and great ape conservation.[5][6]
The foundation provided a grant to endow the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership at Kalamazoo College. The Arcus center aims "to develop and sustain leaders in human rights and social justice through education and capacity-building."[1][7]

Political activity
Stryker and his family created the Coalition for Progress, a political action committee (PAC) intended to support Democratic candidates. It became the biggest PAC in Michigan history in 2006, according to the Traverse City Record-Eagle newspaper. That year, Stryker also supported the re-election campaign of former Democratic Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm.[13][14]
Stryker family
Pat Stryker, Jon Stryker and Ronda Stryker are siblings and heirs to the Stryker family fortune. As of 2015, the Stryker family ranked number 31 on Forbes' list of the wealthiest families in America. The siblings' grandfather, Homer Stryker, was a surgeon and medical technology innovator who founded the Stryker Corporation, a medical technology company based in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Pat Stryker and Jon Stryker are philanthropists and Democratic donors based in Fort Collins, Colo., and Kalamazoo, Mich., respectively. Ronda Stryker is a philanthropist and board member of the Stryker Corporation based in Portage, Mich.[15][16]
