I'm a lifelong public servant who has worked as a firefighter, 9-1-1 emergency dispatcher, and police officer in Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Luis Obispo Counties. After experiencing a career-ending injury serving a search warrant on a drug manufacturing case, I transitioned into public policy, first serving on the Monterey County Planning Commission and then getting elected to the Seaside City Council. In addition to city council, I also currently serve as the chairperson of the Housing Authority of the County of Monterey and as a member of the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments. In addition to public policy, I worked for Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay, which builds homes in the northern part of the district; however, due to the pandemic, I left that job and accepted a position with the Campaign for Fair Housing Elements as the policy director. There, I oversee the campaign’s work to empower community members and shape local housing elements to ensure cities and counties are planning for adequate housing in their communities. I live in Seaside with my fiancée Jessica who is a nurse manager and an elected trustee of the local school board, as well as my two soon-to-be stepsons who attend local public schools.
  • I’ve spent the last half a decade working on our housing crisis as the chairperson of the Monterey County Housing Authority, a founding member of the Monterey Peninsula Housing Coalition, building homes as an employee of Habitat for Humanity, and working for a statewide nonprofit on cities’ and counties’ long-range housing plans. As a city council member, I’ve approved thousands of new homes in my city and worked with our county board of supervisors to establish the first ever shelter for women and children anywhere on the Monterey Peninsula. I have the greatest depth and breadth of experience and ability on the housing crisis of any of the candidates, and I’m ready to put that to work to bring real solutions to the Central Coast.
  • As a former first responder I have the expertise necessary to tackle some of the most serious public safety threats we face as a community. From drought and wildfire to organized retail theft to the ongoing danger of the pandemic, I have the professional training and expertise to provide real solutions for the Central Coast. With college degrees in firefighting and criminal justice and a decade of experience fighting wildfires, arresting people who victimize members of our community, and treating people with injuries and illnesses as an EMT, there’s no other candidate better suited to keep our communities safe.
  • I have lived and worked in every county in the new Assembly district, serving the community as a firefighter in Monterey County, a police officer in San Luis Obispo County, and a 911 dispatcher in Santa Cruz County. I understand the water supply issues of Los Osos and north SLO County, the housing crunch and lack of high-paying jobs on the Monterey Peninsula, and the wildfire risk and homelessness problems in Santa Cruz County because I’ve dealt with and experienced all of them. I understand the district better than any other candidate and am the best suited to work on the challenges our communities face and hit the ground running on day one.
As someone who has worked in housing policy for several years and has experienced brief periods of homelessness during and after college, I am incredibly passionate about creating new housing opportunities for people at all different income levels. In the same vein, I'm committed to creating new pathways for our youth to ensure kids who don't want to attend college can still be successful by pursing careers in the skilled trades and technical professions, such as carpentry and aircraft maintenance. I'm also focused on developing new water resources to pull us out of the generations-long water shortage our communities have faced. By creating new sources of water through recycling stormwater runoff and industrial use of water, we will be able to grow our economy and provide the housing we need to become a more prosperous and successful community.
An elected official should practice two key philosophies: service before self and doing the most good for the most amount of people.
