Jonas Eppert is a 27-year-old progressive candidate running to represent District 74 in the Virginia House of Delegates. Having grown up in Florida, Jonas witnessed firsthand how over two decades of Republican governance have stripped away quality public education and housing affordability. During the pandemic, Jonas relocated to Virginia with his partner who works as a special education teacher. Currently, Jonas serves as the Environmental Coordinator for Powhatan County, focusing on promoting sustainable development that preserves the community's local character. Jonas is committed to advocating for working-class families and the environment, ensuring that people take precedence over corporate interests.
  • Lower Healthcare Costs: Every Virginian deserves affordable, quality healthcare, regardless of zip code. As your Delegate, Jonas will work to lower prescription drug prices and out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Invest in Our Public Schools: Strong public schools are the foundation of our future. Jonas will invest in teachers, classrooms, and students to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.
  • Cut Everyday Costs for Virginians: Jonas will prioritize easing the financial burden on families by tackling high costs for essentials like groceries, gas, and utilities.
Jonas is deeply committed to policies that make life more affordable for Virginians—particularly in the areas of healthcare, higher education, and housing. He strongly supports fully funding public education from pre-K through 12th grade to ensure every child has access to a high-quality education. Environmental protection is also a core priority, with a focus on preserving natural resources and addressing climate change for the benefit of future generations.
Jonas grew up looking up to the men in his family whose lives embodied service, courage, and an unshakable sense of justice. His great-grandfather, a Navy veteran and former Florida Gators quarterback in the 1930s, was known for his outspoken defiance of the prejudices of his time. He treated all servicemen with dignity and respect, building relationships rooted in mutual trust and humanity. That example of moral clarity left a lasting impression on Jonas and helped shape his belief in fairness and inclusion.

His grandfather on his father’s side also played a formative role. He worked under Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, where he was a strong advocate for affirmative action in the Cook County School District and later became involved in civil rights work. Through his public service and advocacy, he advanced policies that expanded opportunity and pushed for equal treatment. For Jonas, these weren’t just family stories—they were lessons in leadership, justice, and the responsibility to stand up for others. That legacy continues to guide him in his commitment to equity, dignity, and opportunity for all.
Jonas believes the most important qualities in an elected official are integrity, honesty, and authenticity. To him, public service means being a true representative of, by, and for the people—not serving special interests or personal ambition. An elected official should always prioritize the will of the voters and stay grounded in the needs and values of the community they represent.
If I can help fight back against working-class oppression and guide others to do the same, then I have accomplished my task. Everything that follows is secondary. I want to leave behind a legacy rooted in the empowerment of others—encouraging them to use their unique gifts and talents to lift up those less fortunate. That is a legacy I will be proud to carry with me for the rest of my life.
Growing up, Jonas faced significant academic challenges. After being held back in first grade due to difficulty reading, he was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD. This diagnosis provided clarity, but the road to overcoming these obstacles wasn’t easy. With years of tutoring, individualized education plans (IEPs), and his own determination, he eventually caught up. This experience gave Jonas a profound appreciation for the importance of early intervention and strong public education systems. It also strengthened his commitment to ensuring every child, regardless of learning challenges, has the resources and support they need to succeed.
If elected, Jonas would seek placement on the Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources; Counties, Cities and Towns; and Education committees. These align with his policy priorities—supporting increased environmental regulations to protect air, water, and soil quality, promoting affordable housing in Virginia’s communities, and ensuring every student has access to a fully funded public education.
Financial transparency is the bare minimum for anyone in public office. Elected officials should not be beholden to monied interests and should prioritize support from small-dollar individual donors whenever possible. Jonas supports strict limits on campaign contributions, with a cap of $100,000 per cycle for each seat sought. He also supports banning individual stock trading for holdings over $5,000. He believes all stock ownership, trades, and major financial activities, including those involving immediate family, close associates, and affiliated businesses, should be fully disclosed to the public.
