Nomination
On September 6, 2022, President Joe Biden (D) nominated Grey to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Grey's nomination was returned to the president at the sine die adjournment of the U.S. Senate on January 3, 2023.[2] The president renominated Grey on January 23, 2023.[3]
Grey was nominated to replace Judge Denise Hood, who assumed senior status on May 1, 2022.[2]

Eastern District of Michigan, federal magistrate (2021-2023)
Jonathan Grey joined the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan as a federal magistrate judge on August 24, 2021.[7] He left the court on March 9, 2023 after joining the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.[3]

Jonathan Grey earned an undergraduate degree from Morehouse College in 2004. He earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2007.[7]

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan is one of 94 United States district courts. It was established by an act of Congress on December 24, 1863. When decisions of the court are appealed, they are appealed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit based in downtown Cincinnati at the Potter A. Stewart Federal Courthouse and Building.
Jurisdiction
The Eastern District of Michigan has original jurisdiction over cases filed within its jurisdiction. These cases can include civil and criminal matters that fall under federal law.
The District Court is based in Detroit, with courthouses also located in Ann Arbor, Bay City, Flint, and Port Huron.
