Making San Francisco More Affordable In these tough times, we need someone on the Board of Supervisors with the dedication and experience to preserve our city's diversity. San Franciscans are struggling and working harder every day to stay in this city. And it'll take the right kind of leadership inside City Hall to make vital decisions that will help the greatest number of residents. The City’s nearly $9 billion budget is the biggest policy document in the city. While in the Mayor's Budget Office at the height of the perilous Great Recession, Jonathan Lyens learned fast how to manage the city's budget. He knows firsthand the hard realities when it comes to setting priorities and making tough decisions. As a Senior Contract Analyst and an on-the-ground community advocate, he knows that every dollar counts – and he has the negotiation experience to make sure the City gets the best deal, so we can have the resources we need to fund vital city services. In these tough times, we need someone on the Board of Supervisors with the right experience to make this city more accessible, welcoming and diverse. Let's Get Muni Working Public transportation needs to work for everyone. The 38-Geary, 1-California, 5-Fulton and other public transit routes are lifelines for residents and businesses in the Richmond District. Jonathan knows – he and his guide dog, Benito, ride the 38 every day. Families, seniors, people with disabilities and so many others rely on a Muni system that is safe, convenient and reliable to live and work in the Richmond District. We need to ensure that public transportation is safe and accessible to everyone in our neighborhoods – seniors, the disabled, kids and residents in every district. Real Solutions on Public Safety Public safety is a critical issue not only in District 1, but throughout the city. Public safety is a critical issue not only in District 1, but throughout the city, especially when it comes to pedestrian safety, safe routes home for kids after school, protected bike lanes and making sure our neighborhoods are safe for families. Jonathan's experience in public safety, public and mental health and in the nonprofit world has given him a unique perspective. He understands that we need to preserve and strengthen our homelessness and mental health counseling programs, but also enhance the interconnectedness between these programs and our police officers. This will ensure residents needing services are connected with experts in these fields quickly and allow our police officers to focus on law enforcement. Jonathan knows that many San Franciscans have great ideas when it comes to making their own neighborhoods safer. That's why as President of the FDR Democratic Club, he regularly coordinates town hall meetings with elected officials and policy leaders on issues on increasing public safety for all residents. He is also civilian advisor to the Richmond district’s station captain as an active member of the Community Police Advisory Board. An Advocate for Underrepresented Communities, Seniors and People with Disabilities Most candidates talk about helping seniors and people with disabilities – but for Jonathan it's deeply personal. After losing his sight at a young age, defying the odds and dedicating his life to public service, Jonathan is committed to fighting every single day to protect those underrepresented communities most in need. As President of the FDR Democratic Club of San Francisco for seniors and people with disabilities, he has repeatedly fought ensure that the City's rebounding economy empowers all of us. He's also setting the agenda for the California Democratic Party's disability platform, and Governor Jerry Brown has appointed him twice to the local Board of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Jonathan's life as an advocate and person with a disability has given him a truly unique appreciation for the challenges of the under-represented. As Supervisor, Jonathan will be a strong voice for the majority of San Franciscans, especially those who feel their voices aren't being heard in City Hall.[4][5] |
