Jonathan McGrady
Jonathan McGrady was a 2013 Democratic candidate for District 6 of the Virginia House of Delegates.[1]
Biography
McGrady earned his undergraduate degree from Hampden-Sydney College in 1991 and his J.D. from the College of William and Mary in 1995. He is a practicing attorney and owns a tree farm in Carroll County.

"When I become delegate, I intend to personally recruit businesses to locate in Carroll, Wythe, and Smyth Counties. We need to create a better partnership between the state and local governments."
- Education
"We must stop state unfunded mandates on our schools and local governments. Our counties only have so many revenue streams available so when the state mandates a pay raise or a retirement increase, which our school personnel certainly deserves, then the state needs to pay for it."
- Agriculture
"I am very concerned with the loss of family farms and intend to zealously support agriculture as your delegate."
- Guns & Sportsmen
"I have had a concealed weapons permit for over five years. I strongly support the 2nd Amendment."
- Power Bills & Taxes
" I do not want to see any new tax increases. I pledge to look for ways to save money without sacrificing our children’s education and core governmental services that are vital to our Commonwealth."
Elections
2013
McGrady ran in the 2013 election for Virginia House of Delegates District 6. McGrady ran unopposed in the June 11 Democratic primary. McGrady was defeated by Jeffrey L. Campbell (R) in the general election on November 5, 2013.[3]

Race snapshot
Incumbent Anne B. Crockett-Stark (R) did not seek re-election, leaving the race in this usually Republican district an open seat. Presidential candidate Mitt Romney (R) won 66 percent of the vote in this district in 2012, and Governor Bob McDonnell (R) won 72 percent in 2009. Despite the uphill climb, Democrats put forward a strong bid for this seat with McGrady, a candidate who has a concealed weapons permit, an aversion to tax increases, and a door-knocking campaign despite the occasional unfriendly dog. The addition of Independent challenger Barbara T. Hall had the potential to complicate the race for Republican candidate Jeffrey L. Campbell, but Democratic candidates were likely to win elsewhere before they scored a victory in this district.[4][5]
