Weinhagen completed a survey conducted by The Sun Focus:

Why are you seeking election to the Mounds View School Board?

As a lifelong resident of the Mounds View School District, I have had the opportunity to interact with our schools as a student, resident, taxpayer, member of the business community, parent, and most recently as a school board member. In each of those interactions I am reminded of the tremendous asset that our schools are to our community. We have a rich history of excellence and innovation with a tradition of delivering results in an effective and efficient manner. I want to be a part of that continued history and tradition.

What are the top two or three priorities for the Mounds View School District in the coming year, and how would you address them?

The achievement gap and ensuring all students have access to a quality pre-K experience are both priorities for the Mounds View School District in the coming year.

The achievement gap, including gaps of opportunity, aspiration, expectation and performance, continues to be a priority for the District. Our Equity Promise is a bold statement that directs us to maintain, develop and implement programs and services that ensure that race, class and disability will not predict a student’s success in our schools. This guiding principle has led to innovations that have yielded measurable results in closing these gaps; however, ongoing changes in demographics require us to continue looking for ways to ensure this progress is sustained. College in the Schools is a great example of one of these innovations and has been tremendously successful. Moving forward we need to look for additional opportunities to introduce and expand offerings, such as the newly launched “Equity Promise Scholarships” that provide opportunity to all of our students.

This past year we began conversations related to ensuring that all students have access to a quality pre-K experience and took steps to free up the necessary instructional space to accommodate expanded programming. In the coming year, we will have an opportunity to further identify those students that would benefit from this expanded offering and explore sustainable funding options.[4]

Weinhagen completed a survey conducted by the Pioneer Press:

Biggest issue and how to solve it:

The district faces continued financial challenges. I commend the board for creating the reserve that allowed them to pass the current deficit budget; however, we should always strive for revenues that are in line with expenses. We need to roll up our sleeves to find efficiencies and savings.[4]
