I am a regular American woman: a mother, a widow, and an entrepreneur.

I graduated from Columbia College with a degree in History. I have worked in small businesses, been an educator, and started my own business. Over the course of my life, I personally have known both poverty and prosperity. I have also volunteered extensively with individuals who face serious health challenges, endure mental or emotional illness, deal with prejudice in society and the law, are victims of abuse, struggle to meet daily expenses, or who fight the stranglehold of regulations as they try to keep a small business afloat.

I believe the two-party system has failed regular Americans. Special interest groups, not people, are at the heart of too much legislation. Personal and political party power, not the balance of power, governs the actions of political leaders. Extreme partisan politics, not rational solutions, dictate our course. We are not promoting the general welfare.

When I moved to Utah, I witnessed firsthand the way Utahns watch out for and care for one another. Community is what makes Utah uniquely great. However, too often Utah politicians fail their community by putting party politics ahead of their constituents' needs. As your Congresswoman, I will always keep people and the Constitution at the foundation of my legislative work.
  • Constitutional, principled, and compassionate conservatism

  • Real solutions require collaborative democracy across party lines and divorced from special interests

  • People should be at the center of every public policy

Historically? Abigail Adams. She was brilliant, unafraid to state her opinions and stood for what she felt was right, was a loving wife and mother, and didn't life overwhelm her.

Currently? I admire Sharon Eubanks. Her humanitarian work touches me and makes me want to work to also make a difference. She shows great love and patience to those she interacts with.
Being open-minded to learning new things, being fair-minded towards opponents, relying on the Constitution and not current trends, the willingness to be proactive and not react to events or the opposition in formulating policy, integrity and independence, and being communicative with those they serve.
I am a good listener and care about the people I listen to

I believe in researching for facts instead of automatically believing rumors or news stories
I read voraciously and follow news sources from all political sides
I believe in compromise
I am a leader and enjoy helping people see different viewpoints
I am a dedicated and hard worker

I am willing to stand up for what I believe is true, even if it isn't popular
I worked at JC Penneys for 5-1/2 years, on and off. While in college at BYU I worked in the archives.
I love "Little Dorrit" by Charles Dickens. I love how the main character faces poverty and abuse, yet rises above those circumstances to live with dignity and continue to show love towards others. I love the theme of service and charity as portrayed by Amy Dorrit and Arthur Clennam. I love how Amy doesn't change at her core, no matter her circumstances, whether poor and living in the Marshalsea or wealthy and living in luxury. Watching the various characters and their reactions to the fickle nature of fortune is educational. I also found the Office of Circumlocution to be a particularly apt description of much of government and has helped hone my sentiments against government inefficiency that works against people instead of for them.
I like non-partisan commissions
No. I believe that people outside of government bring unique perspectives that are beneficial to the nation.
I believe our divisiveness in one of our greatest challenges. This includes: our inability to humanize our opponents, our intractability, the way we demonize and fight against each other instead of working for solutions, and the growing anger and resentment against fellow citizens.
Yes. With an absolute limit of six terms for representatives (two for senators).
