Campaign themes

Turner issued the following statement regarding his bid for office:
| “ | I have lived and worked here my entire life and am committed to addressing issues from excessive student loans and fiscal responsibility to weak drunk driving laws and our heroin epidemic. Another priority that is close to my heart is cancer prevention; it’s a disease that has likely affected all of us in one way or another. If elected, I would propose a law that would fund the distribution of post card reminders to all women aged 45 or older urging them to schedule annual mammograms to catch cancer early. This simple measure would be guaranteed to save lives, which is exactly what the government should be in the business of doing.
I’m a community organizer, area volunteer, business owner and a student, so I can see the perspectives of a lot of different people. I think that, in addition to our former mayoral campaign, makes me uniquely qualified for this position. To those who might be hesitant to support me because of my age, I would ask that you look past the date on my birth certificate, and instead focus on my character and integrity because that’s what counts. Pursuant to the state constitution, I am fully qualified for this position. Further, our bid for mayor, in which we received 1/3 of the votes, helped me gain extensive experience and understanding. After learning from our previous campaign and seeing how much support we already garnered, I feel confident that we can achieve victory in this election. Additionally, as president of my company, Global Conservation, LLC, I routinely worked with the community in an effort to better the lives of people and animals. I have the energy and enthusiasm to do this, and I hope you do too! Partisan politics is often messy and mean-spirited, which is why I pledge to always run a friendly and respectful campaign. I want to bridge the gap between the two parties so we can FINALLY get things done to improve our communities. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Representative Jagler, who currently occupies this position. However, the fact is, I simply have different ideas and hope to have the opportunity to discuss and implement them with the citizens of District 37 and the great state of Wisconsin. [6] |
