Lopez issued the following statement regarding his bid for office:

I chose to run for California's 67th Assembly District because I believe I can provide a more secure future for everyone in California with tuition-free, higher education, environmentally-friendly jobs, and a single-payer health care system. I will also work towards strengthening gun safety, immigration reform, women's rights and pay equality, social justice, LGBT rights, and Veteran care, among may other Progressive values.

Having served our country, the “Once a Marine, Always a Marine” philosophy will forever be with me. My passion for serving my country and all its people has only grown as a result of being a Marine. I am not serving for some unrealized ideal of heroism, but because I – like all that serve – understand that we must be amongst the first to protect our people. I am ESPECIALLY concerned for those who cannot defend themselves: the young, the elderly, the injured warriors, the abused, the neglected and the voiceless. This includes not only humanity, but also animals and the environment.

As a grassroots activist, I have traveled the county, and understand that hard-working families deserve a fair chance. I will fight to provide access to tuition-free college/ROP, and full-time, living-wage, career opportunities in our communities, and universal health care. I don't believe that a serious illness should bankrupt families, and I will work to make sure that never happens.

Electing me assures a dedicated and caring representative with unswerving devotion to the people I swore to protect.

I thank you for your vote, and your full support. [7]
