Jorge Luis Garcia was a Democratic member of the Arizona State Senate from 2003 to 2011. He represented the 27th District and served as the senate's Minority Leader. He served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1993 to 1996.

Biography

Garcia earned his B.A. in sociology from the University of Arizona in 1975 and his M.S.W. in social Work, planning, administration, and community development in 1981. His professional experience includes working as Deputy Director for the El Rio Health Center from 1980-1984, Clinical Manager for the Maricopa Medical Center from 1984-1987, Social Service Director for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe from 1988-1999, Emergency Room Social Worker for the Maricopa Medical Center from 1990 to 1998, social worker for University Medical Center from 1991-1993, Home Health Administrator and Program Manager for the Tohono O'odham Nation, Independent Contractor for various tribal government from 2000 to 2005 and social worker for both University Physicians and various Indian tribes.

Garcia was ineligible to run for re-election in 2010 due to Arizona's term limits.

In 2008 Garcia was re-elected to the Arizona State Senate, District 27. He finished with 38,480 votes while his opponent Bob Westerman finished with 18,749.[1] Garcia raised $34,130 for his campaign fund.
