He is the author of 10 books, the most recent of which is A Country for All: An Immigrant Manifesto (2010).[1]

Career

Jorge Ramos immigrated to Los Angeles in 1983 as a student and began working on-air at a Spanish-language radio station.[2] Ramos began his career at Univision in 1986 at the age of 28, when he became lead anchor for Univision's nightly news program.[1] He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2008.[2]

Noticiero Univision is the highest-rated Spanish-language newscast—and one of the most-viewed newscasts overall—in the United States. It regularly draws more than 2 million viewers each evening.[2] Because of his large audience and the trust they have in him, Washington Monthly called Ramos "the biggest, most trusted on-air personality on Spanish-language TV."[3]

Politico classifies Ramos as an "advocacy journalist," one who practices a partisan method of reporting by which many journalists in the past "have made important news without sacrificing their personal views."[4] The issue he is most outspoken about is immigration, leading Sean Spicer—communications director for the Republican party—to tell The New York Times: "he’s more of an advocate than a journalist."[5] Ramos has been a frequent critic of President Barack Obama, who promised comprehensive immigration reform in his first presidential campaign but did not do in his first term.[6]
