An effort to recall Councilman Jorge Vera in Laredo, Texas from his position was launched in August 2014.[1] The recall took place on November 4, 2014.[2] Vera was recalled.[3]

Recall proponent arguments

Laredo attorney George J. Altgelt led the recall against Vera. He targeted Vera following his arrest on suspicion of cocaine possession. "He needs to be made an example out of. We hold our public officials to a higher standard. Or at least we should," said Altgelt.[1]

Recall supporters needed to collect signatures equal to 10 percent of the vote cast in the most recent District 7 election.[1] Supporters turned in more than 130 signatures, enough to get the recall on the ballot.[2]
