What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Economic Development 2) Making sure former High School students that never received diploma, understand that our Governor passed the law in 2015, and can now receive their diploma, only if they earned all required credits. 3) Write better legislation for 1st time home owner to invest in home buying.[6][7]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Vocational training center centralized in DeKalb county, supporting our youth and adults, not requiring a GPA to attend. Up on completion ready either to work or attend college. Enforcing laws against blight. Stronger penalties, for violators who continue to neglect maintaining properties: Vacant lots, houses and buildings should be kept up to code or torn down. It is not the responsibility of the county to take on the expense.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[7]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Joscelyn O'Neil answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

My strength, comes from the support I receive from my husband and family, friends and neighbors.[7]
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else that best describes your political philosophy?
The Bible and Velveteen Rabbit. Strength and the power of love. "Words of Wisdom": Did it ever occur to you that we remain ignorant of attested truth and scientifically proven facts, most particularly because we fail to make a personal, detailed investigation of important matters? This failure to investigate positively retards the progress of our understanding and knowledge in every vocation and phase of life, both physical and spiritual. Sometimes stopping and thinking for a moment over the essential things of life eliminates many regretted years of poverty, sickness, humiliation, embarrassment and sometimes death and destruction. Therefore, we should learn to pause and try to think intelligently before we finally conclude affirmatively or negatively. We should do this before an ultimatum or final decision is rendered on any secular subject. The majority of us are, to some extent, are guilty of this negligence.[7]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
We are elected to serve families, communities, districts, state and our country.[7]
What qualities do you possess that would make you a successful officeholder?
I am aware, and share my knowledge to my constituents. Passionate and I've continued to stay closely connected. Too often, I've experienced the lack elected officials only connecting until campaign periods. I'm aware that my position is a service to the people.[7]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
Legislation and enforcement of the laws many already exist. Follow the process that has already been established. Advocating to strengthen conditions in our district and state.[7]
What legacy would you like to leave?
I have advocated for issues and seen 90% results. Always ready to listen and take on the issues that concern the community. I'll get the job done.[7]
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at that time?
Receiving the "Rose" award for "Outstanding all around Girl Scout" 12 or 13 years old.[7]
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
Summer Camp Counselor, two summers 10th & 11th grade.[7]
What happened on your most awkward date?
High School Graduation My Dad was a college professor, and set me up with the most handsome college fellow. Parents paid for every thing. I woke up the day before with an abscess, swollen face, tooth ache. I had perfect teeth so to speak, this was so embarrassing. I refused to go to the college ball. My dad was furious.[7]
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Of course Mother's Day...[7]
What is your favorite book? Why?
Velveteen Rabbit. Love.[7]
If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?
Wonder Woman[7]
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
My family room & kitchen. We all gather together & I love to cook.[7]
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
Wake up everybody, by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes featuring lead Teddy Pendergrass.[7]
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
Friends say, I'm too fact of matter and speak my mind which sometimes irritates them and others.[7]
(For non-Nebraska candidates) What do you consider the most important differences between the legislative chambers in your state?
Housed separate, different views of the laws coming from the House to the Senate.[7]
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
Yes.[7]
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
Gun control and drugs.[7]
What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature?
Both must continue to focus on responsibilities and dutifully serve our constituents[7]
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
Very much. Communication is so important across the board, many concerns must be legislated with both parties and areas concerns.[7]
What process do you favor for redistricting?
Town hall meetings open to the public (day and evening). Explain the purpose, other the voting tabulations.[7]
If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
Energy, utilities and communications. Small business and Tourism Health and Human Services[7]
If you are a current legislator, what appealed to you about your current committees?
1) Companies lack of cleaning up after work is done. Broken poles, wires hanging and how customers are charged. 2) Businesses have gone viral for immigrants. Better community development. 3) Poor processing state wide on appropriations of funds for providers/care takers.[7]
If you are not currently a member of your party’s leadership in the legislature, would you be interested in joining the leadership? If so, in what role?
Not sure.[7]
Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
No.[7]
Are you interested in running for a different political office in the future?
Yes.[7]
Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?
Yes. Enforcing and legislating stronger penalties on business owners for loitering, prostitution and poor management of multi-family complexes high volume of repeated violations in the communities businesses (stores & gas stations), which causes disparities and lowers property values.[7]
