Joseph Albright (Democratic Party) was a judge of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. Albright assumed office in 2000. Albright left office on March 20, 2009.

Biography

Joseph Albright was born in Wood County, West Virginia on November 8, 1938. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame. He earned a law degree from Notre Dame Law School. At Notre Dame Law School, Albright was awarded the Webber Prize for Appellate Advocacy and was a member of the Notre Dame Law Review.[1]

Albright's career experience included working as an assistant prosecuting attorney of Wood County, as a city attorney in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and as a practicing lawyer from 1962 to 1995.[1]

He was first elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1970. Albright served as Chairman of the House Education Committee (1977-78), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee (1979-84), and as the 52nd Speaker of the House of Delegates in 1985 and 1986.[1]

In September 1995, former Governor Gaston Caperton (D) appointed him to the state supreme court. He served through December 1996. After his term of service on the Court, Albright resumed his law practice in Parkersburg and Charleston. Albright was later elected to the court on November 7, 2000.[1]
