Bird was running in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 35. Bird was set to face off against Frances Ann Hurley, Anthony R. Martin and Andrew Byrne Hodorowicz in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012, but he withdrew from the race on January 12, 2012.[1] Steven Williams is running in the Republican primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
