Joseph Brannigan is a former Democratic member of the Maine State Senate, representing District 9 from 2006 to 2012. He also served in the Maine House of Representatives from 2000 to 2006.

Brannigan earned his Bachelor's degree from Georgetown in 1955.

In addition to being a Senator, Brannigan is a licensed Social Worker.

Brannigan won re-election to the 9th District seat in the November 2nd general election.[2] He had no primary opposition. Jeffrey Martin ran for the seat on the Republican ticket. The general election took place on November 2, 2010.
