Joseph Covello
Joseph Covello was a judge on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Second Department. He began serving in this position in August of 2005.[1] He resigned from the Appellate Division in September 2011, citing judges' low pay as the reason for his resignation.[2]
Education
Judge Covello earned a B.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1975 and a J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law in 1979.[1]
Career
Judge Covello began his legal career in 1980 as an associate of the law firm Dean, Falanga & Rose. In 1986, he started his own law office, which he ran for about two years before joining Bee, DeAngelis & Eisman as a general practicioner in 1988. From 1989 to 1994, he returned to his solo law practice. During his time in the private practice, he also worked as Counsel for the Town of Oyster Bay Zoning Board of Appeals (1987 to 1994), Special Counsel for the Nassau County Police Indemnification Review Board (1990 to 1994) and Counsel to the firm Rosano, Mose, Hirschhorn & Corleto (1991 to 1994). In January of 1995, he assumed office on the Nassau County District Court. He then took office on the Nassau County Supreme Court in January of 2000. He also served as Associate Justice for the Appellate Term of the 9th and 10th Judicial Districts from June of 2004 to September of 2005. In August of 2005, he joined the Appellate Division.[1]
