Joseph J. Purtill
Joseph J. Purtill was a judge trial referee on the New London District Superior Court in Connecticut.[1] He was first appointed to the bench in 1979 by former Governor Ella Grasso.[2]
Purtill passed away in March 2014 at the age of 86. Purtill remained on the bench after officially retiring to serve as a judge trial referee. Although he suffered from several health problems, he continued to work at the court until approximately two weeks before his death.[2]
Education
Purtill earned an undergraduate degree in history from St. Michael's College in 1950. He was awarded a J.D. from the University of Connecticut in 1953.[2]
