Joseph Lanzendorfer
Joseph Lanzendorfer was a 2017 Libertarian special election candidate for District 10 of the Delaware State Senate.
Campaign themes
Lanzendorfer's campaign website highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]
On education:
- Excerpt: "We need a bottom-up approach to education, with a focus on each student's individuals needs, not a top-down approach that only looks at the big picture. This starts with empowering Delaware's teachers, because they're the ones working with kids every day and understand what each child needs. We need to bring art, shop, music, and trade skills back into the classroom, instead of just focusing on teaching kids how to pass a test. Joe will advocate for a voucher system to give parents the means to send their kids to the school of their choice, and improve the student-teacher ratios in the classrooms."
On economy:
- Excerpt: "We need less taxes and less useless regulation to attract more industries to Delaware. Joe will fight to eliminate the franchise tax from small businesses, and lifting the $180,000 franchise tax cap on huge corporations. We need to eliminate barriers for small businesses. We need to stop spending tax dollars on corporate welfare that make our economy unfair and uncompetitive."
On hemp:
- Excerpt: "Hemp is a cannabis plant that contains almost no psychoactive drug THC, but was banned simply because it is closely related to the cannabis plant that does produce the psychoactive drug. We still use it, but we import it from other countries since it is illegal to grow here. Over $500 million in hemp is imported every year. It can be used to make paper, all sorts of materials and textiles, medicines, renewable plastics, and researchers at the University of Alberta may have even found a way to make cheap, fast-charging batteries from hemp. One acre of hemp can produce as much paper as 4 acres of trees, and is ready to harvest in less than 5 months."
On cannabis:
- Excerpt: "Marijuana never should have been illegal to begin with. Study after study has proven it to be less harmful than alcohol or tobacco, and less addictive than cocaine, heroin, or even caffeine."
