Joseph M. Leberman is a resident judge of the First Circuit Court of Illinois.[1] He was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2006 to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Donald Lowery.[2] He was retained on November 4, 2014, for a term that expired on December 6, 2020.[3]

Leberman was retained to the First Circuit Court with 68.2 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [3] 

Evaluations

The Illinois State Bar Association and participating attorneys rated Joseph M. Leberman as Recommended for retention in a 2014 poll.[4]

Education

Leberman earned his law degree from Southern Illinois University in 1988.[5] He was admitted to the bar that same year.

Career

Prior to his judicial appointment in 2006, Leberman worked in private practice. He also has experience as a city attorney in Carbondale, a corporate attorney for Metropolis, an assistant state's attorney for Massac County and a public defender for Alexander and Pope counties.[2]
