Joseph Marrero
Joseph Marrero was a 2014 Democratic candidate for District 12 of the Utah House of Representatives.[1]
Biography
Marrero grew up in Pennsylvania graduating from Louis E. Dieruff High School in 1990. He then went on to study religion at Circleville Bible College and The Ohio State University.[2]
Professionally, Marrero has worked in a variety of customer service positions.[2] He also served as a volunteer firefighter in Pennsylvania for 16 years. At the time of his candidacy, Marrero was working as a beekeeper in Roy, Utah.[2][3]
Marrero has been active in his community. He is serving as the president of the Weber Beekeepers Association and the Greater Salt Lake Beekeepers Association. He was a Boy Scout leader for seven years and served for three years on the board of directors for the Union and West End Cemetery Association in Pennsylvania. Additionally, he served for three years on the policy council for the Community Services for Children in Pennsylvania.[3]

Marrero submitted the following statement to Ballotpedia:[3]
“ | I am running for office because I want to enact change for the better, I want to address education needs and need for our public servants like our firefighters and police, our teachers and educators,and those who in the background serve us daily. I want to bring industry and jobs to my district. I want to offer tax incentives for companies to open here and incentives for people to buy and consume local goods first.[4] | ” |
Elections
2014
Elections for the Utah House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 20, 2014. Joseph Marrero was unopposed in the Democratic convention. Mike Schultz was unopposed in the Republican convention. Schultz defeated Marrero in the general election. Incumbent Richard Greenwood dropped out of the race.[1][5]
