Campaign themes (2016)

Matvey highlighted the following issues on his 2016 campaign website:[5]

Terrorism and Second Amendment Rights

The United States is under attack from terrorists. Our law enforcement agencies do their very best in protecting us and we also have every right to protect ourselves. Our Second Amendment provides us with a Constitutional right to own guns and I encourage everyone to properly obtain a gun if they choose to, be trained on the proper usage, and secure your guns from children. Our liberal President is attempting to link domestic terrorist attacks to proper gun ownership. Nothing could be further from the truth. Criminal and terrorist will always obtain guns illegally and use them against legal owners. We need to send a clear message to all the bad guys, we will not be intimidated by their attempts to harm or kill us for their deranged political, religious or social objectives. I support the complete preservation of the rights of Americans under the Second Amendment without exception.

International terrorism is a clear violation of the criminal laws of the United States. These terrorism acts transcend national boundaries and the President of the United States needs to clearly communicate and work with other cooperative world leaders to combat terrorism overseas. That does not include entering into poor treaties with countries such as Iran who support international terrorists. As your Congressman, I will work diligently to fight against any financial or legislative actions that support un-cooperative counties in the fight against terrorism.

Immigration

The liberal Democratic administration in the White House is lying to us. This President has an agenda and he is not being honest with his true intentions. The Obama administration is bringing Syrian refugees to the United States under the guise of relocation from their civil war. The truth is these people are UNREGISTERED DEMOCRATS. These UNREGISTERED DEMOCRATS will receive financial aid, health care and be provided housing. All of this occurs as we continue to have a $439 billion budget deficit. The bottom line is we have to mortgage our children’s future to bring UNREGISTERED DEMOCRATS to our Country because we have a liberal President that wants to increase his party’s deranged membership. Please don’t forget, some of these future democrats are terrorists too.

I will fight this vigorously as your Congressman.

Spending and Budget Cuts

In September of 2015 it was reported that the U.S. budget for the fiscal year included $3.69 trillion in spending and $3.25 trillion in receipts. The deficit was $439 billion, which obviously came from additional borrowing. Four items, including health care, pensions, education and defense made up 68% of the total expenditures. In addition 6% went to pay interest. Any candidate that is making noise about a solution of fixing the problem through a balance budget amendment is saying that is the solution because they think that is what you want to hear. In order for us to balance the budget we need to come up with a responsible plan that will improve the economy so that businesses are profitable, more people are working and we need to reduce spending. If a balance budget amendment was forced upon Congress, then spending on the four areas mentioned above that include Social Security, Medicare and our national defense would be jeopardized. Our current debt load is $18.2 trillion. If we had a budget surplus that was equal to our budget deficit today, it would take 40 years to pay off our debt. I am a Certified Public Accountant that has spent years in finance and corporate America fixing financial problems. I am very qualified to take on this task of working toward a viable financial solution for our children.

Term Limits

The concept of term limits makes sense if and only if it applies to all members of Congress. Each and every Congressional representative serves their respective constituencies. Many times legislation is a negotiation to achieve your goals. If one representative commits to a self-imposed term limit you weaken your ability to achieve your goals. That is foolish and irresponsible to your constituency.

In addition to self-declaring that you are a weak representative by limiting your term without it applying to all members of Congress, you send a clear message to your constituency. The message is “I am here for 12 years during which time I will collect $2,088,000 in salary and will walk away with a full government pension”. THIS IS NOT THE TYPE OF REPRESENTATIVE THE 8th district needs!

Religious Beliefs and Values I consider myself a non-denominational Christian. I believe that the Bible is historically accurate and provides God’s perfect plan and guidance for how we govern ourselves. Our currency says “In God We Trust” and I put my trust in God. I do respect religious freedom. I am “Pro-Life”. Abortion terminates the life of an unborn person. I personally have adopted and have had friends waiting years to adopt. Any young woman unable or unwilling to raise a child has a willing and able couple waiting to adopt a child.[6]
