Joseph Montaño (Democratic Party) is a judge for Division XXVI of the New Mexico 2nd Judicial District Court. He assumed office on February 5, 2021. His current term ends on January 1, 2029.

Montaño (Democratic Party) ran in a special election for the Division XXVI judge of the New Mexico 2nd Judicial District Court. He won in the special general election on November 8, 2022.

He was appointed to the court in January 2021 by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Biography

Education

Montaño earned his bachelor's degree in political science at California Lutheran University and his J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law.[1]

Career

Prior to serving as a judge, Montaño worked as the Deputy District Attorney in the Second Judicial District Attorney's Office. He managed the General Crimes Felony Trial Division. Montaño previously worked as the Director of Compliance for the University of New Mexico's Athletic Department and as a Compliance Assistant for the University of Michigan's Athletic Department.[1]
