Joseph B. Morton served as Alabama Superintendent of Education. He was first appointed superintendent by the state Board of Education on July 13, 2004 and served until his retirement on August 31, 2011.[1]

Morton served as Alabama Superintendent of Education from July 2004 to August 31, 2011. In announcing his retirement, Morton stated, "Education is what I've dedicated my entire life to -- it's all I know, so this will be an adjustment for me. But the time is now."[2]
