Joseph Slusser was a candidate for the District 3 seat on the Okaloosa County School Board in Florida. He faced Christoffer Hyden and Rodney Walker in the general election on August 26, 2014. As one of the top two vote-getters, he advanced to the runoff election, which was held on November 4, 2014, after no candidate received 50 percent of the votes in the general election. He was defeated by Walker in that election.

The Okaloosa County general election on August 26, 2014, featured three seats up for election. Cindy Frakes lost her bid for re-election in District 1 to challenger Lamar White. In the District 5 race, incumbent Melissa Thrush defeated challenger David E. Scholl. The District 3 race advanced to the runoff election, which was held on November 4, 2014, as no candidate received 50 percent of the vote. Incumbent Rodney Walker and challenger Joseph Slusser were the top two vote-getters, defeating Christoffer Hyden.

As your representative I pledge to:
--Support local control of schools by favoring Site-Based Management
-- Promote safe and secure schools by promoting a program of proactive planning rather than reactive responses to dangerous situations
-- Increase instructional time in our classrooms by decreasing Teacher paperwork and reducing un-mandated testing on some end of course exams
-- Replace early release days with Teacher work days in order to facilitate less stressful parental childcare planning and additional transportation expenses[1]
