I hold a master's degree in public administration from UIC and was previously Treasurer of the Heart of Lincoln Square neighborhood organization. I have also been involved with the budgeting committee for the 40th Ward in Chicago as well as a member of 40th Ward Dems. As a board member of Heart of Lincoln Square, I held a seat on the planning and development committee. We met with developers and small businesses and discussed their proposals for the neighborhood. We demanded affordable housing at all new multiunit residential developments in order to earn our endorsement. I have also previously advocated for a higher minimum wage, the FAIR Tax, elected school board, and an end to gun violence. I am 100% pro-choice and will do everything in my power to ensure Illinois is a safe haven for abortion rights.
  • The General Assembly must lead by example. I will write a bill that strengthens our ethics laws on day one, increasing the waiting period to become a lobbyist after leaving office and allowing the inspector general to subpoena elected officials without permission.
  • Our prison system does not nearly enough to rehabilitate offenders. The state takes on excessive costs housing returning prisoners. We need to invest in in-prison education that allows every prisoner to take classes toward an associate's degree while in prison. Those that enroll in these courses have a 40% lower chance of recidivism. I will write this bill in the first year of office.
  • Obstructive zoning laws impede on the ability to build multiunit housing, and as a result we see higher rents and home costs across the state, particularly in Chicago. I intend to eliminate single family zoning laws across the state to increase housing substantially and allow more options at lower costs for all.
Education; prison reform; housing; environment; LGBTQ rights.
I am patient and a good listener. I hold strong beliefs and values, but am willing to sit with others who may have some disagreements and find common ground.
My hope is that people see me as honest, determined, and strong-willed. I hope to leave a legacy of accomplishments that will have made Illinois an even better place to raise a family and achieve your dreams.
Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. Excellent story telling.
