Joseph Tipton
Joseph M. Tipton was the presiding judge of the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals. He was appointed to the court by former Governor Ned McWherter (D) in September 1990 and was retained by voters in August 1992. Tipton was further retained in August 1998 and 2006. He became the presiding judge of the court in September 2006.[1] He retired from the bench at the end of his last term on August 31, 2014.[2][3]
Education
Tipton received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1969 and his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1971.[1]
Career
After law school, Tipton began working as an attorney in private practice in Knoxville, Tennessee. He worked in this capacity from 1972 until his appointment to the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals in September 1990.[1]
