Frelinghuysen defeated Rick Van Glahn in the Republican primary, while Wenzel won the Democratic nomination against Lee Anne Brogowski and Richard McFarlane. The primary elections took place on June 7, 2016. Frelinghuysen won re-election in the November 8 election.[2][3][4]
