My name is Joseph Yang. I am an experienced community leader with a heart of service. I currently stand at the crossroads of service and entrepreneurship, working for a local police department and running my own small business. I currently serve the residents of Chandler on the Police Commission as well as on the executive board of a nonprofit that supports the Chandler Police Department. I have a history of serving the community of Chandler, starting with the library system where I served as an advisory board President for several years. During my time with the library I received an award from the President of the United States for my volunteer service to Chandler. Following my time at the library I was recruited to sit on various planning committees for the city helping plan multiple cultural events like the Asian Village and first ever Asian American Communtiy Conference for Chandler. In my professional life, I worked for the city of Chandler's parks and rec division as a city employee. I found my passion for law enforcement when I started volunteering for the Chandler PD's Operational Support Bureau, I volunteered over 5,000 hours and found my passion for supporting law enforcement and shortly after leaving as a volunteer I began my employment with a local police department working as a police aide and supporting our departments police officers. I am running for Chandler city council to continue serving the community I have grown up serving. www.yang.vote
  • Supporting Public Safety I am running to continue supporting public safety, as I always have during my life because everyone no matter who you are deserves to live in a safe community. I want to keep Chandler on a great path of building bridges and making connections with our community. Specifically the next generation and youth of our community. Supporting Public Safety means addressing issues proactively, right now teen violence is a big issues plaguing our communities and I feel that the best way to address this is by strengthening our relationships with the next generation and youth and ensuring they are aware and comfortable with all the resources the police department has to offer. This makes Chandler safer for all generations!
  • Developing Our Workforce Right now we are in the midst of a "Silver Tsunami" many of the business owners and stake holders I meet with tell me that we are having a shortage in our workforce where we are losing people from the workforce faster than we are getting them. The city of Chandler has great partnerships with the local universities and community college but I would like to take the CTE programs the city has like the Leaders in Training program, Mayors Youth Commission and Police/Fire Cadet programs and make them more robust to harbor a strong work ethic in our next generation and ensuring they are aware of the opportunities and career fields there are. We must develop our workforce to invest in critical infrastructure.
  • Supporting the American Dream I am a first generation America and the son of immigrants. My parents have always instilled the values of hard work, being positive/kind and trusting God. My dad was fired from his first job because he could not speak English but that only motivated him to work harder. Those are the values I bring not just to Chandler but to every day life. I will continue to meet every challenge as an opportunity and stay positive while facing those challenges. I want to ensure Chandler stays an "All-American" city for all people to work hard and attain their American Dream as my parents did. I want to continue Chandler being the land of opportunity where people work hard and love our community!
I am passionate about policy that affects our public safety, the men and women that risk their lives day in and day out for us and I will always ensure that I am looking out for them!

I am also passionate about educational policy, while city council does not have much to do with education I am passionate about ensuring our future kids are educated properly to continue our society's prosperity.

I am also passionate about resource policy like streets and water. I am proud to be endorsed currently by 2 members of the nonpartisan water board of Arizona. I want to ensure that future Arizonans have the resources they need to continue to thrive and be successful.
This office possesses many different qualities that make it unique, first off we are the executer of the budget for public safety, we are the governing body that ensure public safety is operational and functional. The people we represent rely on us to have a safe and clean community. We also manage the water supply and levels of our city and that is a critical need especially in a state that is a desert.
I look up to our founding fathers. The men that founded our country and did not accept defeat or the odds nit being in our favor. Our founding fathers believed in the principle of freedom from oppression and even when the odds were stacked against them they fought to preserve our rights.
I feel that some important characteristics and principles that are important for an elected official are; transparency, integrity, courage, respect, pride and fairness.

Transparency: As elected officials we are working with public funding and other people's money. We work for The People we serve and we must be transparent and open in our work because we are entrusted with other people's hard earned money.
Integrity: As an elected official you must have integrity. While being involved with law enforcement we are taught the value of integrity, we must be virtuous even when no one is watching.
Courage: As an elected official there are lots of pressures put on you and you must act on your conscience and have courage to stand for the right thing.
Respect: As an elected official you must have respect for everyone even those that do not agree with you.
Pride: As an elected official you must take pride in the work you do and have pride in the people you represent. You must be proud to represent the people and your "district".

Fairness: As an elected official, depending on your capacity sometimes you are making decisions that will affect people's lives for better or for worse and you must act with integrity and have courage to be fair to all of your constituents and be fair and not act in spite.
Some of my most favorable qualities to this office are; Determination, Dependability, Relentlessness, Transparency and Motivated. I am always going to represent my constituents and stand for the right thing always. I am dependable and consistent, I have been serving our community for several years and always been here for the community. I am relentless in the way that I do not give up easily. I am motivated and bring a passion for this community like none other. I love Chandler and it's people and it is my joy to continue serving them.
The core responsibilities for this office are simple. Ensure our city is a safe city by supporting our public safety, ensure the longevity and success of our city by investing in critical infrastructure like developing our workforce, strategic planning of roads and projects and securing the future of our water in a desert. Another core responsibility is ensuring the residents of our city are met with a great quality of life. No one wants to come or live in a city where the streets are bad, the community is not safe or welcoming.
I would like to leave a legacy of community service and commitment to the people in pursuit of justice and fairness for all.
The most memorable moment of history for me was in 2018. When our United States President entered North Korea for the first time and signing a treaty to being talks of peace with a country that has never wanted to discuss peace. That marked a very big moment in history for me as my extended family are all in South Korea and this is a step closer to making my family safer.
My very first job was at the age of 14 I got a job at Safeway grocery store to dip my toe into the workforce early. I rode my bike to work or had to be dropped off by my parents and I was there until I tuned 16 and got a more official job!
Ever since I read this book when I was younger I have been a fan of the Lovecraft Middle School series. It is a book with intrigue and mystery and wish the author wrote more books for the series.
Captain America! Cap't America is a very honorable and courageous man that has a very sharp moral compass and always fights for what's right with a "never give up attitude"

I think of a specific scene in Avengers Endgame where when all seemed lost and Captain America had no back up and he was beaten down he stood up and was ready to face his enemies in the hundred by himself knowing he will surely die yet he faced the challenge without and regret.

Yes. A lot of those little-known powers were exposed during the pandemic of 2020 COVID-19. Many municipalities and cities were deciding whether or not to impose/enforce lockdowns in their cities and whether or not to shut down businesses and mandate masks within their city. This is a large power that has been overlooked by many until it happened and I feel that it has really opened many peoples eyes to the power of these local offices and that we are the real representation of our constituents.
Not necessarily. This is the most local our government gets. This is a government of the people, for the people, by the people. Anyone has a right to run to serve and represent the people of Chandler. The people elect us to bring our unique experiences and opinions to this position and that is something everyone has, a unique experience.
I have a very wide array of experience of the city and its programs and services. That is what makes me the best person to serve the residents, on the Chandler city council. I bring a unique experience in being able to represent my generation and culture. I will continue my service to this community and city, that is how the resident of Chandler know they can trust me because I have been someone that has served them for the past several years.
Why Shouldn't you write with a broken pencil? Because it's pointless!

I am a firm believer in this. We MUST be transparent as public bodies. We need to earn the trust of the people we represent because at the end of the day we are the people we represent. We are afforded in this country to have a representative gov't of the people, by the people, for the people. We need to be transparent and ask ourselves "If I was the constituent being treated this way how would I feel" because at the end of the day we are constituents as well and we represent our friends, neighbors and community members and we need to act with the utmost integrity and have courage while impartially discharging our duties like the oath of office we swear on.
