A lifelong Wisconsinite, Josh was raised in Janesville by his grandfather, former State Representative Lew Mittness, after his mom was killed by a drunk driver. Lew and his wife Ruth instilled in Josh the values of civic duty, integrity, and compassion — lessons that have shaped the man he is today. Before Lew passed away, Josh made him a promise; a promise to continue the tradition of standing up for everyday Wisconsinites and fighting for a better future for us all. Josh intends to do just that.

Josh isn’t a career politician. He’s a regular working-class guy who knows the challenges that families in the 50th District face, because he lives them every day. From the rising costs of living and healthcare, to the financial struggles of our local schools and the pressures placed on working parents, Josh understands these hardships firsthand. Because he was raised by his grandparents, Josh is familiar with the struggles many older Wisconsinites face in retirement, from living on a fixed income to increased costs for medication, housing, and everyday essentials. Josh is committed to delivering real solutions that make a real difference for the citizens of our state.

Josh is running on a platform focused on dignity, opportunity, and equality for every Wisconsinite. He believes that all of us are entitled to a vision for the future that lies beyond the next paycheck.

Josh resides in rural Monroe with his fiancé, their children, and a lively household of pets.
  • True Individual freedom comes from economic security. This means freedom from hunger, the right to decent and affordable housing, a livable wage, affordable and available childcare, bodily autonomy for all, and properly funded education. The people of Wisconsin should not be struggling to make ends meet. They should be able to have a vision for the future that lies beyond the next paycheck.
  • We need a livable minimum wage that is directly linked to inflation and the rising cost of living that allows working families in Wisconsin to meet their needs with dignity. No one who is willing to full-time should be living in poverty.
  • Wisconsinites deserve clean air, water and soil. This also includes conserving and protecting our public lands, as well as our public hunting lands. Here in the dairy state, we also need to make it easier to start and keep family farms in family hands. Our land, air, and water are the lifeblood of this nation, and our farmers provide the sustenance we need to live.
Josh's primary public policy push can best be described as simply making it possible for the hard working people of Wisconsin to survive. This means affordable housing, quality fully funded education, affordable and available childcare, affordable healthcare for all, and most of all a liveable minimum wage that is tied to increases in cost of living and inflation.
