Career
Republican Party of Texas
Josh Perry first began his political career as a field director for the Republican Party of Texas from 2009 to 2010.[1] During this time, he also served as delegate at the state's party convention in 2010. At the convention, he told TexasGOPVote of his priorities, saying that he was "interested in guns rights issues, trying to get concealed carry on campus passed, seeing if we can't get something like that into our platform showing support for expanding gun rights as much as possible."[2]
Harris Media
In late 2010, Perry began working with Vincent Harris and his media firm, Harris Media. Harris Media was working on Ted Cruz's 2012 Senate campaign developing the digital side of the campaign; during that time Perry had become Cruz's digital director. In November 2014, Harris Media shifted from Cruz to represent Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).[1]
Ted Cruz new media director
Perry remained with Cruz, becoming Cruz's new media director in Washington, D.C.[1]
In March 2015, Perry transferred from Washington, D.C., to Houston to join Cruz's PAC, Jobs, Growth and Freedom, as part of his transition into what would be Cruz's presidential campaign team for 2016.[3]

Josh Perry and Ted Cruz's online presence
Perry's role within the Cruz camp was critical to Cruz's online presence, so much so, that Cruz first announced his candidacy on Twitter.[5] As Cruz's social media voice, Perry's posts on Facebook helped to generate an enormous amount of conversation about Cruz and his campaign; Cruz had roughly 1.8 million users referencing him in 5.6 million interactions on Facebook between August 22 and November 22, 2014. On Twitter, Cruz had 4.6 million mentions between September 1 and December 1, 2014. By comparison, Hillary Clinton (D) had 2.9 million mentions during that period.[6]
Describing his process for getting Cruz's voice and messages out into social media, Perry stated:[6]

Our main strategy is to be as engaging with our content as possible, whether that’s by thinking of ways to generate comments, likes, or shares - this all helps boost the appearance of our posts in people’s timelines. Of course, that all begins with having a clear and direct message about something people care about, whether it is about the economy, national security, healthcare or any other issue. [7] |
