One of the five seats on the Martin County School District school board was up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. District 5 incumbent Michael DiTerlizzi filed for re-election and ran against two challengers in the primary election on August 30, 2016: Joshua Ferraro and Larry Green. DiTerlizzi and Green received enough votes in the primary and faced each other in the general. DiTerlizzi emerged from the general victorious, winning another term on the board. The District 2 seat was originally set to be on the primary ballot, but when the filing deadline passed and incumbent Marsha Powers faced no opposition in her bid for re-election, the election for the seat was canceled and Powers was automatically re-elected.[1]
