My name is Joshua Marcil, and I am a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Albany Common Council, Second Ward. I firmly believe that, at its best, government is a tool that can bring about social good for our community. Those who choose to live a life of public service must remember that they are working with the goal of improving the lives of all they represent, and every action they take must reflect that. It is this belief in government and public service that drove me to pursue a career in legislation in the New York State Senate, and drove me to run for Common Council. If elected, I promise to make myself available and accountable to the people of the Second Ward.
  • If elected, I would work to make sure the Second Ward has what other neighborhoods have and every neighborhood deserves - a grocery store, a pharmacy, and a community center.
  • If elected, I would work to address major issues that the Second Ward, and the City of Albany, faces, including public safety; housing affordability and availability, not just to rent but also to own; and economic opportunity.
  • If elected, I promise to stay accessible and available for my constituents. I will always show up, and I will always give you an opportunity to be heard.
I am personally passionate about the environment/sustainability; public transportation; and policies that ensure our government, at every level, works for all of us
The Common Council is the City of Albany's legislative branch, passing resolutions, ordinances, and laws that impact the lives of those who live in New York State's Capital. Those who seek this office must be prepared to work collaboratively with other Councilmembers, advocates, and stakeholders to write legislation that will make people's lives better. I believe that my legislative experience in the New York State Senate will help me when writing laws to address the concerns of those who live in the Second Ward.
As a public servant, I hope to make a positive impact on my community, no matter how small. It is my hope that, as a Councilmember, I will be able to leave a legacy of improving the lives of my neighbors and those I will never meet.
The Honorable Joyce Love; Albany Common Councilmember for the 3rd Ward

I believe it is important for our government, at every level, to be as transparent as possible in order to remain accountable. As a designated policymaker in New York State, I am required to submit a financial disclosure every year. I believe this is very helpful in establishing trust between the people and the government. In terms of accountability, I believe it is important for those who hold public office to make themselves accessible and available to their constituents.
