Campaign themes

2016

Trumbull's campaign provided the following statements to Ballotpedia:

[Trumbull] chose to run for Attorney General because the Office has become politicized to the detriment of the people. Like our founders, he believes collaborative problem solving requires more than two parties.[4][5]
  • Individual Rights: Above all, the people's individual rights must be protected.
  • Voter's Choice: In 1800, John Adams wrote, “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our constitution.” History shows other founders including Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson shared Adam's concern. Perilously, this wisdom has yet to be integrated into our society.
  • People Before Corporations: Business provides benefits for the people of Washington, whether they are small family businesses or large corporations. But there are times when businesses also cause harm to the people of Washington. It is the Attorney General's job to make sure that these businesses are held responsible, and to protect the people from recurring problems. Sometimes settlements result in nothing more than a press release and a slap on the wrist to big corporations. Because the consequences are so little, they write this off as the cost of doing business harmful behaviour continues.[6][5]
