My Minnesota roots run deep since I have lived here my whole life. Most of my childhood was spent in Moorhead and I returned to Moorhead to pursue an Associates of Applied Science in Mechanical Drafting and Design from MState and was graduated in 2022. Currently, I am working for John Deere as an OJT on the Starfire production line. Last fall I had the pleasure of purchasing my first home located on the south side of Moorhead. Someday I hope to marry and raise a family of my own with the values I learned from my parents: the value of work, volunteerism, respect, love of country and liberty. I am running for office because I see those values slipping and I am concerned about the direction of our state. I believe in the value of people and in their own ability to care for one another, achieve, and make their way in the world. I believe that the role of government is to protect the rights of the people and create laws with the power given by the people through the constitution. My pledge to voters is to listen to your concerns giving careful consideration to all viewpoints. I want to read every bill and think about the consequences of each detail. Next, I will pray for guidance and vote with common sense and regard for every citizen of Moorhead.
  • Every household in MN has limited resources as does the government of MN. The legislature is not able to spend money on every nice idea or pet project, and raise taxes to match idealistic dreams; it must spend the people's money on actual investments that are practical, timely and effective. State government should focus its' attention on the common good of all with investment in infrastructure, k-12 education, and law enforcement. We are increasing spending in programs such as Feeding our Future that have proven to lack proper oversite and are full of fraud and abuses. It has become to easy to offer free stuff with other people's money and forget that the other people are our own neighbors. Growing government leads to waste.
  • MN is struggling to compete with neighboring states to attract and keep business. I would like to work on MN tax and regulatory policies to become more favorable not just for corporations but especially for small businesses that work out of the home and pay taxes as a sole proprietor on personal income taxes. MN has one of the higher tax rates across the country and we continually add more regulations that are a detriment to those who may start a business. One example is the education requirements on daycare providers making it hard to qualify for a license. Rural areas struggle to open restaurants and grocery stores due to the long process for inspection. Regulations should be easy to understand with the compliance process clearly stated.
  • MN K-12 education is struggling with performance gaps and directives from the state board of education that are not fully funded. Our social studies curriculum should be emphasizing harmony under our constitutional republic rather than the disunity of identities. Lessons should be focused on necessary skills rather than ideologies. The state board of education should be there for the purpose of continuity of standards while local school boards manage its implementation. The right of the parent to be informed of all things concerning their child should be preserved. MN has enjoyed a climate of many choices in schooling, which should be continued and even expanded.
Avoiding unnecessary mandates on the free market, particularly in the energy and tech sectors, because it can stifle innovation and waist resources. When technology is ready, it will become popular. Nobody had to be forced to buy a washing machine or refrigerator. I personally own an e-bike and love it, but I could not afford an electric car even if I wanted one. Electric car mandates would mean no other choices would be available, even if a better technology is discovered. Governments roll is to protect public safety, the people should get to decide what solutions work best for them. New and better solutions will thrive thanks to people voting with their dollars.
I believe that elected officials should have character traits like responsibility, honesty, willingness to admit ones mistakes, and no small amount of humility. Being responsible for the laws and policies that affect so many people is a job that should not be taken lightly. As a source of information for the public on many topics related to government, it is important to be accurate and if mistakes are made that they are corrected fully and publicly. It is also necessary for the elected official to remember that it is their office as a public servant and the effective accomplishment of its functions that is important, not their personal popularity or agenda that is important.
I believe that it is the duty of the legislature to write one topic bills that are clear and concise so that every citizen can read and understand what the law is and how to follow it. It is paramount to be present in session and read every bill put forth to the house in its entirety to fully understand what it says and what impacts it might have. I will vote for the best interests of Moorhead residents and not according to political party or lobby group preferences. Continuous research on pertinent subject matters, regular meetings with local officials, and town halls with constituents will guide the work that I do in cooperation with other House members to serve our great state of Minnesota.
I hope to leave a legacy of making life better for others.
I first started working right after turning 17 as a cashier for the Moorhead Cash Wise Foods. When my family moved, I worked other retail jobs until returning to Moorhead to attend MState when I worked for the Moorhead Cash Wise again. My work with Cash Wise was roughly 4 years in total.
Either Hiccup Haddock the third of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise or Iron Man of the Marvel Cinematic Universe minus the playboy aspect. I have always liked Hiccup as a character, as he used his atypical characteristics to solve a conflict of long standing and made many innovations to help his fellow Vikings. I also think that we would get along very well if I were to live on Berk as me. Tony Stark has amazing character development over multiple films, and frankly, I would love to have access to his tech and workshop.
Knock Knock. Who's there. Ach. Ach who. Gesundheit.
