What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
“ | 1) Affordable housing 2) Single-payer health care |
” |
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?
“ | My vision focuses on the most vulnerable among us. My priorities include housing, education, health care, criminal justice reform, environmental justice and a transition to a clean energy economy, and preserving vital public services. The all-out assault being carried out by conservatives against organized workers, and government workers in particular, is not something that blue California is immune to. Right-wing conservatives are making every effort to strip workers – public- and private- sector – of their pay, rights and benefits. The wage gap between the average American worker and the ultra-wealthy is at an all-time high, and it continues to grow. Expert economists have said a robust economy thrives on a strong middle class, but ours has been rapidly shrinking. As a result of government policy changes and court decisions, those of us who might be considered hard-working middle-class Americans are being crushed by Corporate America, Big Pharma and Tea Party-initiated budget cuts. To combat this, unions and legislators must foster closer ties to protect our communities. I am one of only two card-carrying union members in this race, and I have the backing of my union, Teamsters Joint Council 7. Moreover, as a career Contra Costa County Mental Health Counselor, I am attuned to day-to-day labor issues and concerns.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]
