Joyce C. Broffitt was a judge for the Shelby County General Sessions Court, Division 9 in Tennessee. She was appointed to this position by the Shelby County Commission on November 18, 1996, and took office on November 22. She replaced William Ray Ingram. She was re-elected in 1998 and 2006.[1] Broffitt was defeated in her bid for re-election in 2014 and stepped down when her term expired on August 31, 2014.[2]

Education

Broffitt received her law degree from the University of Memphis in 1986.[1]

Career

Broffitt is a former assistant district attorney. She spent eight years as a trial division leader in the general sessions criminal court prior to becoming a judge there in 1996. She had previously run for the judgeship in 1990, but was unsuccessful.[1]

General: She was defeated in the general election on August 7, 2014, after receiving 33.2 percent of the vote. She competed against Gerald Skahan and Melissa Boyd. [2]
